PRINTER REPAIRS
- LASER JET: We
service HP, Lexmark, and most other brands. Parts for HP and Lexmark
are the easiest to obtain and although we can service most brands, parts for
some can be hard to obtain. Personally I always recommend and prefer
HP first.
- DESK JET: Again I
still prefer HP, although I feel Epson has some models that are worthy.
Desk Jets are considered throw a ways for two simple reasons. First
because most of then are under $100 and most do not have many replacement
parts. They usually stop working from non use as the tubes, or print
heads become clogged. Most of the time if you cannot get them working
using the software programs that come with them you are better off just
replacing.
- Other Printers:
If you happen to be in an office setting and use a dot
matrix printer like an Epson, Panasonic or Okidata we can service these
also.
- Basic Printer Information:
Printers are how I got started in the
computer business, I became certified on most printers especially the Laser
Jets and the high end dot matrix units. When looking to buy a printer
here are a few facts you should consider.
1.What
is the main function the printer is going to have to perform?
2.Do
you need a color printer, and if so is it going to be for printing
photographs? 3.Do
you or are you going to be printing a lot of documents. After you have
figured what you are going to use the printer(s) for, use the following
information for consideration.
A small personal laser printer may cost you a
bit more up front; (around $150.00 to $200.00 new, $75.00 to $125.00
used), over an Ink Jet
($40.00 to $100.00 new).
But a laser printer will give you close to
5000 pages per toner
cartridge (average
replacement cost $35-$100) While an
Inkjet typically will only generate about 150 -
200 pages. And the average price for a
single black ink jet cartridge is $15.00-$30.00.
That is at least a 25 to 1
ratio in page output. At the low end of
$15.00, you are looking at around
$375.00 in cartridge
costs for 5000
pages, provided the printer lasts that long. The comparison in color
printing is now to a point where a color laser printer can be purchased for
under $300.00 new.
If you are planning to print a high quantity of color documents, no matter
if they are spread sheets or pictures, again in the long run a color laser
will pay for itself. Most people I talk to say that the majority
of what they print are E-mails, documents from a Word processing program
like Word, or spread sheets created in Excel etc. So if you have the
space and the budget I recommend a B&W laser printer, and a color ink jet if
you just print color stuff once in awhile. If you just want to have
the color for printing photos once in a blue moon, take them to the store
and have them printed. Also a quick note on
all in ones, if you are
really tight on space and need a scanner, printer, and fax; you may not have
much choice. Many times one part of the unit will fail resulting in
replacing the whole unit. These units generally are not repairable by
anyone other than the manufacturer, and even then require that the unit be
shipped back to the manufacturer for an exchange or replacement.
